I was a Ship Clerk on the waterfront during the last years of breakbulk ocean shipping between 1967 and 1980. I took photographs, films and made audio recordings, on the job, working together with the Longshoremen, to load and unload general cargo ships.
The waterfront was a great working environment, but it was very hazardous.
It was my intention to preserve the sights and sounds of this workplace and the people who enlivened it.
I have donated my collection to the Bancroft Library at the University of California in Berkeley, California, in 2025. There it is to be accessible after it's been curated, eventually, to the online network of library collections at: calisphere.org
